New York City

Sorry it took me so long to post this, but I new it would be a long post and it took me a while to put it together....

We arrived in New York Friday evening, the 9th, which was our actual anniversary. After checking into our hotel we found ourselves a quiet little restaurant for our special dinner. It was a really cute Argentine restaurant (didn't write down the name, silly me) with the table sitting with doors open to the street outside. Derek reminded me that he proposed at an Argentinean restaurant in Salt Lake! Very romantic...we drank a very special bottle of wine we had purchased a few years ago at our favorite vineyard in Napa. It was really the perfect night....great food, excellent wine and the best company...with my best friend in the whole world!

Saturday we decided to walk down by ground zero and onto see the Statue of Liberty. We were staying in Tribeca, on the southwest side of the city. It was about a 20 minute walk. Ground zero looks like a great big construction site now, but it is hard to erase those images we all remember not that long ago.

The cross on the left was about the only physical reminder of the tragedy that struck this New York City block.

WOW! She is so cool. I guess seeing something like the Statue of Liberty is Amazing because we see it on tv all the time, but when you actually see it in person it makes you realize how lucky we are to be here! We spent some time milling around the statue an taking pictures around the island. The views were amazing!

Saturday night we met up with my cousin Michael and his partner Pelle for a fantastic Italian dinner. They live in Brooklyn, so they know all the hot spots in town. After our wonderful meal we walked all over Soho. We stopped in at Rocco's for dessert! WOW! That is all I am going to say. Thank you guys again for the wonderful local hospitality. We had a GREAT time!

Sunday morning was really lazy, thank goodness, because we walked for about 12 hours straight on Saturday. I am not sure I have ever been so tired! We had tickets for Wicked that afternoon. It was a beautiful day, so we walked down to Central Park and sat in the sun for a while before our show.

The show was amazing! And we had a wonderful time walking around the city. We took a cab back to the hotel to give our feet a rest and then went out for a Lobster dinner!

We ate at a place called 10 Downing. The food was great, but the atmosphere was interesting...probably a whole other blog post in itself.
Monday morning we got up bright and early to go see the Today show in person. We were highly disappointed to see a crowd of screaming 13-year-old girls surrounding the building. Some kid named Justin Beiber was the featured performer. We couldn't even get close to the building. We still had a good time walking around.
Monday was our final day and I hadn't done any shopping yet! My husband is wonderful in many ways, but he sucks at shopping! So, we did our best to do a little. We ended up with souvenirs and I am going back with my girlfriends to shop another time!!!!
We had a wonderful trip! Thank you for letting me share it with you. Thank you for a very special weekend Derek. I love you! Looking forward to see what the next 10 years has in store for us.

  1. Awesome!!!
There are only 2 things that suck about this trip......
1~That there wasn't someone totally rockin' cool at the today show.
2~That I wasn't there to shop for pashmina scarfies with you :)
What a great way to celebrate your anniversary!
