Evil dessert!

What started out to be a really fun night with my girls ended quickly in tradgedy!  We were headed to see the long awaited movie... Eclipse.  The movie started at midnight, so we thought we would stop off at Chilies for a coffee and some yummy dessert!  I had this one of these sinful little goodies...the warm chocolate fudge brownie shot.  Ooch!  About 15 minutes later my stomach was screaming at me.  Pins and needles in the ribs!   I don't know what they put in there, but it killed me and ruined my night.  NO MOVIE for me.  It was home to bed and a chocolate hangover today.  Evil, I tell ya!

No more training wheels.

A big milesone for Grace...we took off the training wheels and she learned how to ride on two wheels!  She is doing great!  With a little more practice, we will be hitting the road for some long bike rides this summer.

Utah Arts Festival

We went to the arts festival in downtown Salt Lake last weekend.  The art was ok, but expensive... so, we didn't get anything special this year.  The kids were our entertainment!  They were begging to have their faces painted.  Grace has done this before, but it was Ryann's first time.
She wasn't so sure what to expect...

but, she sat patiently and went along...

Let the transformation begin!

Every minute or so she would glance over and give me this look...I suspect she was thinking, "I don't really want to do this."

Grace was happily transforming....

  Taa daa!

We have a butterfly!  Not the prettiest butterfly, but the cutest face...still wondering what in the heck was going on...

And a pink bunny!  We decided she looked more like a cat, so CAT it is!

Ryann was shocked when she looked in the mirror.  I think she scared herself.  About 15 minutes after the painting was done she began to smear it like a mad woman.  She did not like it.  Next time we will try pink or purple.  I have no idea what the lady was thinking, but orange and yellow didn't work for her.

Our pink bunny kitty was happy as pie all night...of coarse.  She is pink.  Her favorite color!

After dark we headed over to the stage and listened to Cadilac Sky, a blue grass band.  Pretty darn good!

With smeared orange and red makeup, Ryann really found her grove!

Then she grabbed the camera and took some pictures of the rest of us enjoying the music.

Jerry...

Me, with Grace's new bow and arrow (Dalton in the back ground)...

And, Grace who was desperatly trying to get us to take her home.  She was tired!!!!

Summer travels...

Ok...I decided blogging is hard to do in the summer!  Kids out of school means a lot of work for mom!  Entertaining them constantly...but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Sooooo...
We are busy....
Derek just returned from a trip to Israel.  He had a wonderful time!  They did some work, and even had time to site see.  They visited all the holy sites in Jerusalem, Nazareth and Galilee.  Here are few pics, but Derek has to do a little slide show for me so I can go into more detail about the neat things he saw.  I will share more later.

While he was in Israel I was able to travel to a far off land of my own.....ELKO, NV.  As a little birthday celebration for my friend Jen (happy 35th year my dear!) and a quick girls getaway, we decided to go the annual biker rally!  NO.  We don't have bikes, but we enjoyed some good music, a little gambling and a lot of great people watching.

Jolie, Jen and I discovered that the beers are big in Elko.  (Makes the people watching even better.)
For the most part the bikers in Elko were your average Joe, but the hair dos!

Even the babies had mohawks.  (Guess that is the in thing these days)

But you can't tell me this baby isn't super cute!!!!!
We saw some very interesting outfits...

We don't know this guys, but he was running the booth here and we really wanted a picture of his friend in the back left corner with the crazy red boots. Check it out!  If she had a mirror she might have thought twice about the outfit.  We'll assume she doesn't own one.  Anyway....

The night ended well when Jolie hit the jackpot on a penny machine...$600.00!  That is a lot of pennies...Elko was good to her.  Congratulations Jolie!  Happy birthday Jen!  Thanks for the fun trip girls.

Don't mess with my mimi!

Ryann LOVES her blankets.  She calls them her mimis (pronounced me me).  There are two.  The "star mimi" and the "over (I think she means other) mimi. She has to sleep with them and tote them around the house.  Once in a while she sneaks them OUT of the house for a field trip, but I don't encourage that.  They get too dirty and I have an issue with kids and their dirty little vices.

Derek took the kids somewhere the other day and she snuck out her "over mimi".  You can see by the look on her face she really needed it by her side that day!  Pretty darn funny...these kids.

Ryann's gymnastics.

Ryann finished up her spring semester today at gym class.  She was the last one to do her floor routine today and waited "patiently" by the wall while her friends had a turn...

She did great!  She does an excellent forward roll and a really mean donkey kick!!!!
Check out this short vidoe of her floor routine.

Then it was time to sing some of the songs they learned in class.  Ryann was stuggling a little.  I know she knows the songs.  She has sang them for me on a few occacions, but her neighbors were having a really hard time today and it made performing a little difficult for her.

After a little potty break and a melt down in the bathroom, I convinced her to go back and finish the songs.  She received her award and we are so proud!

Good job Ryann!  Off to preschool next year.

Israel

Derek seems to be having a fabulous time.  He shared these pics with me yesterday...

This is St. Peters in Tel Aviv...

and let the belly dancing begin!

I know that belly dancers make him a little nervous.  He is afraid they will make him dance.  He can't dance!

Missing him and can't wait to hear the stories.  I know he isn't sleeping well.  The time zone has him a little messed up.  Poor thing....oh, wait!  He is ocean front...

Summer finally!

Today is our 1st official day of summer.  We have sun!!!!  The girls began their swimming lessons.  I know....they looked thrilled, but it was the best I could do with my phone camera.  They both love the water.  When Ryann was done she said, "I want to do it again!"

Derek took the other camera on his latest trip.  See the view from his room....
Isreal.  I don't know anything about it, but he says he thinks he can make this work...I guess an ocean view room is pretty good where ever you are.

Two weeks ago he spent a couple of days in Germany for work.  He said it was amazing!  The plan is to take me along next year!  Yippee.

tile and paint!

I have been home improving all over the place...

Last weekend I helped Erica with the tile backsplash in her kitchen.  Fun!  It looks amazing!  I didn't take any pics of the final product because we had a little trouble with our grout.  We used the epoxy kind.  It set up before we could finish.  Frustrating!  But, this is the kind of thing you run into when you do it yourself.  I was honored to help and it looks beautiful.

Then.... after MONTHS of trying to figure out a color to paint my bedroom (the project that was never ending)...I think I got it!  Before it was a dark brown, but my new furniture made the room feel so dark.

Ta daa!!!

Bleeker biege!  Yes, very neutral, but it really pulls out the green in the room and sets off the dark wood!  New green pillows and green curtains to complete the look.  It feels bigger and brighter and it's done!

It's a sushi celebration!

We decided to take Grace out for a special dinner for her accomplishment on the scholarship.  When we asked what she wanted she said, "SUSHI!!!"

So there you have it!  SUSHI!!!!  Yummy.

We love sushi and so do our kids.
Ryann wasn't so sure at first.  She told me on the way to dinner that she didn't like sushi, but she agreed to try it.
Turns out those chops sticks are a little tricky....

Grace caught the hang of it...she is really smart, which is the reason we are celebrating in the first place, right?  And Ryann loved the sushi!!!

We even had dessert!  Coconut ice cream and some chocolate thingy.  Yes, I ate some!  Ugh!   Good, but never as good as it looks.  The ice cream was...well...WOW!   Probably our new favorite treat.

Thanks for giving us a reason to celebrate Gracie!
